Treasures displayed in the floor to dirt on the floor unique treasures of NYC.
Wednesday started with a little one on one project preparation for the final presentation at the Whitney Museum of Art. Having time to define what our group believes a history museum is was a great interactive experience to see if any ideas had changed or were altered after visiting such a variety of experiences this week. After a small shop pizza for lunchtime treat we walked our way to our final planned museum The New York Historical Society. Many visitors to NY probably assume this is Museum dedicated to the history of the city and it’s surrounding boroughs; however, it showcases the history of America, through current collections of toys, art, popular culture and Tiffany Lamps. The fact that they tell and capture women’s history in the Center for Women’s History sparked early curiosity in the museum for me. The museum itself leaves many places for physical interaction by visitors like in the “I’ll have what she’s having” exhibit with the “sandwich” boards to make photos with or the History of the Presidency exhibit where you too can sit in the Oval Office on a replica presidential desk. Overall the museum provided such unique spaces for the young and old.

After leaving the museum, myself, Caitlyn and Morgan ventured over to too very different art instillations of the Earth Room and Broken Kilometer by Walter De Maria. These were spaces I never envisioned myself being interested in but the Earth Room sparked such curiosity and many more questions. Who would envision a large apartment filled with dirt being so interesting. The change in the climate spaces of the room was vey interesting to me, as it felt cooler and damp as your walked closer to the dirt. And we met Bill the caretaker for the space for over 30 years.
